Christmas Party Highlights
By Antya Miller

The 2006 Christmas Party & Awards was another great event. Everyone had a wonderful time seeing and visiting with one other. The setting, food, decorations, music and people were all great. Thank you to the Event Committee and volunteers, especially Ed D’Ascoli, Chet Naylor, Carolyne Lazar, Donna Morrow, Joyce Farrell, and Ron Valenciana.

AWARDS:

• Randy Rarick was the North Shore Kama’aina of the Year for his contributions to the North Shore. As the Executive Director of The Triple Crown of Surfing, Randy made the North Shore the “Surfing Capital of the World” and helped make surfing one of the largest economies of the North Shore.

• As a special tribute, the Chamber also recognized the North Shore Lifeguards who put their lives on the line everyday. Lifeguards receiving awards were: Kolohe Blomfield and Mitch Richardson (Outstanding Service to the North Shore), Fred Booth (Rookie of the Year), and Rick Williams (Aikane O ‘Opio or Friend to Youth).

• Howard Green was the Chamber Champion this year for giving the Chamber below-market rent it could afford for almost five years.

• George Atkins received the Ho’onani Award for keeping the telephone poles in Haleiwa cleaned up for five years.

• Holomua, or Improvement Awards, went to Camp Erdman and the Waialua Community Association (WCA). Camp Erdman completed extensive renovations to upgrade their facilities, and the WCA completed the Weinberg Cottage making more meeting and office space available to the community.

Mayor Hannemann was presented with the Malama ‘Ana, or Preservation Award, for the renovation of the Anahulu Bridge.

Two people were chosen for the Volunteer of the Year award: Gil
Riviere and Michelle Fleischer. Gil represented the Chamber at monthly Oahu Metropolitan Planning Organization meetings (with a perfect record), insuring North Shore transportation projects were included in the planning process to guarantee funding. Michelle volunteered all year to send out the new and renewing membership packets and thank you notes. Mahalo to both of them for giving so much of their time to better the North Shore community.
